Latvian reader in South Australia

Hi everyone,
though I joined a couple of weeks ago I wanted to tell you a bit about my experience in palmreading.
I started to seriously study this fascinating subject 25 years ago and became professional practitioner in 1993, when I became the resident palm-reader in the Adelaide Central Market, staying there until 1999. I used my real name then, which starts with an "I" - for those of you who remember me sitting outside Lucia's Pizza Bar. Over those years I noted that i read for people from 86 nationalities and from over 200 walks of life. It was a most interesting time as the whole melting pot of humanity came to this great market, which was situated opposite the law courts - so I got to read some felon's palms too.
The last 11 years I have spent studying at tertiary level and accumulating various degress and diplomas. During that time I was interviewed on Jeremy Cordeaux's 5DN talk back show and read MP Dean Brown's palms live on air. Dean was very good-natured about it all and was astounded that I "knew" what he had done right down to his correct age. He asked whether I'd read his biography, which of course I hadn't.
For a while I did readings at the Bombay Bicycle Club in Ovingham, an Indian themed pub in a suburb of Adelaide and then more recently every fortnight at the BOHO bar in Unley (Adelaide) which is very bohemian and theatrical in nature, which I totally enjoyed as theatre is my hobby and passion.
For the last 13 years I have been an entertainer for Aardvark Entertainment reading at top line corporate functions in Adelaide and built a reputation for accuracy and integrity.
The logo I use is an illustration of mine of a stylised smiling sun.

I really like this site as I am learning new things and hope this site will continue to thrive.
I speak Latvian and German fluently, with a smattering of French, which could be improved if I used it more.

I am curious, how much did you charge your clients per reading?

Do same people come back to you again and again , year after year for a reading or it was always one off reading.

Do you recall one such hand reading, which was extraordinarily unique .

Actually Atul it's more interesting than that - I have been a graphic designer and artist since 1969, illustrated 5 books, exhibited art in Australia and Germany, lived in Switzerland and Germany, travelled through Europe, been to USA and Philippines, have a degree in Management (Marketing), a diploma of Lutheran theology (Counselling), certificates to prove that my academic study put me in the top 10% of the State and some other certificates including Therapeutic Touch and ability to lead workshops teaching people how to manage chronic health conditions. A versatile, ever inquisitive mind, dear Atul. Maybe in the next life-time I get to use these skills. Oh and just now, July another qualification in Community Services Work, specialising in Youth Work, working effectively in the mental health sector, and suicide assessment and intervention. Phew!!

Yes I have a couple of memorable readings to share:-
In the Adelaide Central Market, as I already noted, it was opposite the law courts. One day an elderly man came by with his lady friend. Just your average looking anglo-saxon grandfather of 75. He sat down and asked for a reading. O.K. His hands indicated a bright verstile mind that could have made a success of anything he turned his mind to. He had deeply marked crosses on all fingertips including the thumb. Hmm, I thought, not sure what they mean... He said he had to appear in court and wanted to know how his case would go, so me, being me, said: "Tell the truth, and I hope you have a good lawyer." He wanted to know what the crosses meant. I said Ididn't know but I would find out while he was over in the courts, and to come back afterwards and I would tell him. O.K. he was fine with that. While he was gone I browsed in my teacher Peter Hazel's book on palmistry and it said these crosses were indicating (on a bad hand) murder, rape, embezzlement, extortion. Oh ohh I thought, what am I going to tell the man if he comes back.... Being a quick thinker and not wanting to risk my life in a dark alley some night I figured out what I would say to him, if he came back.... well when he came back he asked me whether I now knew what the crosses meant, I said yes, truthfully. I told him "society didn't understand him." "My word" he said, "you're so right." Then I asked what case he had been in at the lawcourts. He told me quite blase "I was up for rape, the judge gave me 4 months, he reckoned I should have got 4 years." He was totally unrepentant. And he looked "average." Don't ever judge a book by its cover!!

In the adelaide Central Market I started out charging $10 for a reading, upping it in the late 1990s to $20 a reading. It would last about half an hour. I was keen that people learn to manage their own lives and I didn't want them becoming dependant on me, so I was teaching coping skills and encouraging development of mental faculties. On occasion people came back, after some months, to tell me that I had helped them carve a new life out for themselves, that they didn't have to accept the groove they had been in... one young man told me that since I'd told him he could make a difference to his own life, he'd gone from "nothing" to currently be making his first million dollars. Alas, he didn't give me a tip!

In 1999 I read for an older gentleman who at the end of the reading told me he was the president of the South Australian Psychologists' Association, he told me I was very accurate, very good at what I did, he didn't know how I could know so much, and told me I was much cheaper than the psychologists. Oh, I said, how much do they charge? He said $180 an hour (1999) and I had given him his analysis for $20. !!!!!!

Working at corporate function level my fee, that I received after my agent got her cut, was $300 for 3 hours.

nice to meet you here. Around the 9/11/2001 I have been in Vilnius as an consulting teacher at the Steiner School for a week. I saw the destroying of the Wordl Trade Center there on the TV in the afternoon just before I had to give a lecture and thought it was a film.

Indeed, most people seeing that evil film thought it some block-buster fiction movie. Trust in humankind's conscience died that day. Few of us can live safe lives from that day on.

When you said, your life was not wow, I had a doubt. Your hands show extraordinary lines and it was impossible to have an average life. Unless ofcourse you wanted to be Hollywood celebrity.

Thanks Atul. Could you please expand on "extraordinary lines." One is always so hungry to know more about the self.

I've looked at my hands and see that I diversify too much for real success. What direction would profit me most?

I did revisit your palm.

It is too much to read in a short time and needs a very detailed reading.

At the outset, I can say for future, if you try your hand into " Writing", it would be a more successful venture.

Somehow, your life will never be dull. Infact, if you choose to become a politician , Gillard may rope you in the cabinet .

Interesting you should say that Atul. It seems that my astrology (for what it's worth) seems to agree with you. Maybe "Memoirs of a Palm-Reader" ? .... some 10 years ago a young woman with long dark hair, aged about 18, slim build, with damp hands, came to see me in the Adelaide Central Market. She wanted to know whether a move to Melbourne would be good for her career. (Melbourne is about 800km south east of Adelaide). I said it was really up to her, what she wanted to do. There was nothing stupendous in her palm indicating relocation so far away. "Oh," I said, seeing that she would do quite well in a career dealing with people, "what line of business are you in?" Quite unpertrubed she said: "I treat men like shit and I get paid for it." "Tell me what you do," I ventured. "I get dressed in leather, I have a whip. The man gets naked and I put a dog-collar around his neck, he gets down on all fours, just like a dog, and then I whip him. No sex. He likes being whipped. And then I get paid," she finished. "So, what about Melbourne?" "Go to Melbourne if you want a change, see what it's like and then decide," I suggested. "Thanks," she said, "I'll have a little working holiday.".....

I've started to put a page together as a beginning "Memoir" - to which I probably could add the conversation between myself and the man who said he was Australia's best diamond thief and only stole so he could feed his gambling habit, maybe the tale about the high-class call-girl who didn't look like she was into that sort of thing, and the shop owner who left his wife and 5 kids because he perceived there was another woman for him... well, yes, for a couple of weeks, until she dumped him...

It's always fun at the end of an event where there are a couple other readings to share our tales while they're still fresh.

I'll share a funny story. While doing readings at a picnic for a local TV news station a number of years ago, I was reading the hands of a local well known reporter. I only said "and this is your marriage line..." and he interupted me and whispered for me not to say anything because his wife was just down the table and he didn't want her to know that he was having an affair (a guilty love affair as Parender would call it ).
