Hello Asif Amin,

Thank you for sharing your recommendation.

By the way, Mr Malik's book is already listed in the supplemental chart, see:
http://www.handresearch.com/book/palmistry-top-100-amazon-books-more.htm

Unfortunately his book is probably not popular enought to be illustrated in the first 10 pages of this TOP 100 project (NOTICE: no authors from Pakistan are in the TOP 100, but there are 4 authors from India listed, and 2 of these books have received multiple votes).

By the way, I remember our discussion at the preceeding forum about 'New Horizons in Palmistry': the book presents a very nice unique concept with lots of handprints (but usually they are quite small, and the book als presents some outdated info - even for the days when it was written).

PS. Just wondering, how long are you involved in the field of palmistry yourself?

Thanks for sharing precious info with me. I am grateful to you. I have been involved in palmistry since 1998. I read multiple books, met with various palmists and also I met Mr.Malik in Lahore in 2007, he is retired PH.D Psychology professor of Punjab University.

I consider myself as a only middle level student of Palmistry, it is a vast and researchable subject.

VIII - Palmistry books TOP 100 - listed by 'Amazon Sales Rank'! Empty Does popularity equal quality?

Post  TruthSeeker Wed Aug 04, 2010 4:12 am

IMHO, the most skilled palmist of the 20th century was a Indian-Kashmiri palmist named Mir Bashir who was based in London. His clientèle included the European royalty as well as many world-renowned celebrities. This is before my time, but in his prime (1960s) few palmists commanded as much worldwide respect as him. Unfortunately, he was not a prolific writer and authored only two books. One of which is in my possession (The Art of Hand Analysis).

How good was he? I have "third-hand" experience. Long time ago (when I was kid --- yes, that was a long time ago), my mom told me that her sister once had a reading by Mir Bashir in London. She actually told me specifically what Mir Bashir had told her. Indeed these were very specific events and of astonishing accuracy. Even now, decades later, I recall becoming very curious about palmistry from that day on. I have studied palmistry for 40 years and have read approximately 34,000 hands (yes, I kept count) but have yet a long, long way to go to come close to Mir Bashir's accuracy. And that is indeed the key word i.e. accuracy (and perhaps, specificity, as well). Actually, I have yet to meet any palmist who was really accurate as well as specific. Maybe someday I will ...

VIII - Palmistry books TOP 100 - listed by 'Amazon Sales Rank'! Empty Does popularity equal quality (Part 2)?

Post  TruthSeeker Wed Aug 04, 2010 4:38 am

... and how do I know Mir Bashir was incredibly specific and accurate? In the book's appendix, there are a number of celebrity palmprints. One of the palmprints has Bashir's original notes. The detail and accuracy is nothing short of amazing! How do I know if it was accurate and "amazing"? I matched the events described in reading notes with the celebrity's biography in Encyclopedia Brittanica (yes, old pre-internet days).

One of these days (when I can learn how to upload image files) I will upload a scanned version of the palmprints and Bashir's notes. After poring over these palmprints for 31 years (since 1979, when I got the book), I STILL haven't figured out how Bashir saw what he described in his reading (not all i.e.). Maybe we could all pitch in and do a "group reading". I would be curious to see if others can figure out what has escaped me for 31 years (did I mention I was passionate about the subject? ) lol!

That would be an interesting exercise! I have "The Art of Hand Analysis" and just checked out the prints you mention. It's quite hard to read his writing!
These forums are so great for finding other people who are passionate about hand analysis, isn't the internet wonderful. VIII - Palmistry books TOP 100 - listed by 'Amazon Sales Rank'! 769631

You may have noticed, I love experiments.

So, I am definitely with looking forward to see your initiative presented!

By the way...

TruthSeeker, you mentioned that Mir Bashir has written only 2 books - but I think his list of works is actually much longer. Just to mention what I know right now:

- Your Past, Your Present, and Your Future Through the Art of Hand Analysis (1974)
- The Art of Hand Analysis (1973)
- Palmistry: A Pocket Guide to the Lines in Your hand (1968)
- How to Read Hands (1955)

Martijn,

You are right about the books. Although, I think #1 and #2 are one and the same. Yes, you are right about the handwriting! Very difficult to read. Although if you spend a few dozen hours with a Magnifying glass (as I did) you can decipher most of the notes. Maybe some of us could just try to figure out the legibility issues lol!

Of course, nowadays, one may not need a magnifying glass. An image file such as PDF can always be magnified with a click of a mouse. Maybe I will upload the palmprints this weekend. I think it would be fun!

Hello Asif Amin,

Sorry, I don't have that specific title of Jaquin - but I am aware of a few of his more popular titles:

1 - "Scientific Palmistry" (1925);
2 - "The Hand of Man" (1933);
3 - "Man's Revealing Hand" (1934);
4 - "Signature of time" (1940);
5 - "It's in Your Hands" (1941);
6 - "The Hand Speaks" (1942);
7 - "The Human Hand" (1956) - also known as "Practical Palmistry" (1964);

8 - "The Stars and Your Hand" (2005 + 2010, a chapter of his 1934 work);
9 - "Our Revealing Hands" (2007 + 2008, a repulication of his 1934 work).

* Title 3, 8 & 9 are listed in the Amazon Palmistry books TOP 100, so I quess his 1934 work is definitely his most red work (currently ranked in the TOP 100 at NO.76) - but I have reasons to assume that other of his works should be valued as more significant:

Interestingly, Ed Campbell's "The Encyclopedia of Palmistry" includes a review of the titles 4, 5, 6 & 7; and he mentioned that another expert - Andrew Fitzherbert (who is the author of 2 other palmistry books) - has recognized that title 2 and 7 should be recognized as his most significant works!!

So, with this impressive list it is not really a surprize as Jaquin's work has been popular among quite a few experts.

But in general I think Jaquin's work should be recognized as outdated - for the obvious reason: his work was written over 50 years ago!

I have the impression that the popularity of his work is based on the many analyses that Jaquin presented in his books featured with relatively good quality handprints. But Jaquin definitely belongs to the most devoted hand readers that the world has known; he also tried to work with scientific methods.

(Though I have to admit that I do have only have studied the details of a few of his less popular titles: title 1, 2 and 6).

Asif, I hope this short review of Jaquin's work will become useful for you!
(Maybe when you decide to order another of his titles?)

Actually...Jane Struthers' book is listed as the current no. 12 (and during the past two updates it has been one of the book that continued to improven in ranking), see:

Hello Asif!

Yes, Hutchinson book is a precious book to have in your collection. Though it is currently listed as the NO.83 in the TOP 100, it does belong to the most recommended books so far:

VIII - Palmistry books TOP 100 - listed by 'Amazon Sales Rank'! 41CZhdz9%2BJL._SL500_AA300_

Beryl B. Hutchinson
"Your Life in Your Hands: Interpreting the Patterns on Your Palm" (1967)

Ranked at NO.9 in the list of 'most recommended works':
http://www.handresearch.com/book/palmistry-books-recommended-palm-reading.htm

Though it is a relatively old book, it does include a rich list of sources (appendix & bibliography) - for sure an authentic work: very well researched (in terms of the knowledge known untill 1967), and many details of the hand are being discussed.

So, for those who wonder:
"Is this a must-have?"

My answer is: VIII - Palmistry books TOP 100 - listed by 'Amazon Sales Rank'! 696961

Today I purchased old version of " A modern guide to palmistry - your life in your hands " by Beryl Hutchinson published by sphere books ltd, London in 1965.

What's opinion regarding this book.

Asif, I also like Beryl Hutchinson's book. I think she was the first author (? or one of the first) to write about palmar dermatoglyphics. Good choice! Thumbs up!
