Hi Jeanette,

You wanted to learn how to edit and delete your own messages. We can go through it step by step here.

First you need to send a reply to this message.
then I'll give you further instructions! :-)

Ok Jeanette, look at your message above this one. At the top right side of your msg there are buttons that say "quote" "edit" and an "X" - X is the delete button.

Click the edit button on your message, and the words you wrote will come up in the typing screen, just as it did when you wrote it. Then you can edit it.
start by adding something at the end, maybe: PS I sent the book.
then hit send again just as you did when you wrote it first time.

NB if you want to check the details on this message while you are editing, you can scroll down and you should be able to see it below your reply box.

OK, so click edit, add something to your message, then click send.

well done! now maybe you look at that edited message and think "hmm, maybe it's not a good idea to tell the world when I will be away" !
so, go back to that same message, click 'edit' again, then remove the last sentence.
(you know how to delete your words? put your cursor at the end of the sentence and use the back arrow button on your computer- probably at end of top row on your keyboard).

Ok - go back to that message, click edit, delete the last sentence, click send.

by the way, it only has those details when there is already a msg posted after it. If you reply to this msg, send it, then edit it before anyone replies, the change will show but it won't say 'edited one time'.

What message am I replying to. The original or the reply to Martijin. There isn't a facility to reply to the original.

oops I can see your message but of course I have no way to know whether you edited it yet!

To reply to a previous msg, go to the msg you want to reply to and use the 'quote button next to that msg. The reply screen will come up with that msg already in it and you write your reply underneath it, then hit 'send'.

eg if I want to reply to Martijn's post, I click quote next to Martijn's msg, write my msg in the box and hit send....

so now I have quoted Martijn's msg, I can write my msg below it in the typing box.

ok Jeanette now you try replying to any of the above messages by using the quote button next to whichever msg you want to reply to.

OK, so click edit, add something to your message, then click send.

I meant to mention on my computer there is quote, edit but not the Xs that you mention, Also with clicking quote I have the whole post. So how do I just reply to the part I want to. Thanks.

Yes when you click quote, it automatically quotes the whole post in the reply box. But you can delete the portion that you don't want to reply to. Just make sure you leave the code [quote] (which will also have the person's name that you are quoting) at the start

(haha I had to edit that and split it into 2 messages, because when I put the code in it came up as a quote! like this...)

Finally the X or delete button. I think you only have that option on the last message you post. Once somebody replies the X on your last post disappears, so you then have no option to delete the whole msg. But you can still edit a previous msg and erase all the words, then hit send.

notice you don't see an 'edit' or X option next to anyone else's post. You can only edit or delete your own.
so try posting a msg, then once it's posted, you should see an X next to the quote box. Click the X. You will get a confirmation box "are you sure you want to delete this message" - click yes and you're done!

so after this, you know how to edit, delete, and quote messages.

The "x" will only show up in your very last post in a topic. So in order for you to completely delete an earlier post, you have to delete the most recent post until you reach the earlier post.

Right while I was posting more information came up. I will have to read and try to remember it , but, as I have said, I have got the main information that I needed. I forgot to ask Lynn did I graduate with honours. I think I must have. I was the only one in the class and therefore was in a one to one situation and had the undivided attention of the teacher. I wonder why nobody else joined the class. Hope they are not saying these Scots are so backward. It is not true, it is just me. Thanks again I am now going to hire a graduation robe and organise a party.

well done Jeanette! You didn't think you were able to do these things, but you've done it all prefectly! If you ever get stuck with anything you can put a msg on this thread and we can go thru it.

So simple when you know how. I was looking for a button that said delete to click on, not realising the thing to do was to delete how normally it is done.
