Dear forum teachers,

I have noticed the following a few times recently: white dry scaly-looking veiling over all the major lines, as if they were peeling from some chemical.

I'm a fresh aspiring palm reader, learning and practicing all the time. I live in Canada and in the Caribbean in winter. Only here in the Caribbean I've noticed this white veiling. I think it's some medical condition - immune system or digestive disorders?

Thanks for your ideas!

Maybe since it only happens when you're in the warmer climate it is related to your body adapting to the climate changes. Winter skin peeling away to summer skin.

thanks for your quick reply!

Sorry, I meant that I have seen the white veiling on other people a few times, not on myself! Local people that live here all the time.

Hi Natascha,
Comparing your description of veiling to what I've seen on people's hands, I think it relates to dead skin peeling away. Nurses with the thicker skin types that have mostly the main lines, will get what you are calling a white veil along the outlines of the creases. And to greater or lesser degrees in the creases. This is from washing their hands too much which dries out the skin.

People that work with paper or wood will get that too, as the moisture is pulled from the skin by the material.

I think it's something would go away with skin care, such as exfoliates and moisturizers.

Thanks Patti, that makes sense. One of the people is a lady who works in a hairdresser's salon washing hair all day. The other is a cook. So it must be the excessive washing & drying out.

By the way, this is a great forum!

Thanks! Welcome to forum!!

Yes I would definitely associate it with their hands being in water too much!

Hi,
I have also seen this (and confirmed as having on my own hands) from stress and lifestyle changes. This is especially true if over the line. The veiling had 'rubbed' out that section of the line eventually and a new line formed in another spot. At the time I was making changes because I was not happy. My hands were dry possibly from washing dishes, but it seemed inappropriate since I did not work with water, only housework, I believe it was from long term stress.

Hi Sari, I agree with stress causing dry skin, too! Especially around the cuticles (for me)! When I'm stressed for a long period I'll get those little loose pieces of skin next to the nail that I just have rip off with my teeth, even though I know better. Because then it becomes worse and peels more and I have to pull more and etc. So glad it only happens occasionally!

I had to laugh when you mentioned ripping the skin off with teeth.. nail biting I used to do this and people used to think I was nail biting. I now have nail clippers handy and trim the offending dry bit so the teeth can't possibly grab hold. Very Happy
