Question about crease underneath index finger Empty Question about crease underneath index finger

Post  emandem Mon Aug 22, 2011 5:33 pm

Hi everybody!
I have a question regarding the crease that's on the bottom of everybody's fingers. It seems that on the index finger mine is sort of.. incomplete. But there is a crease above it.. as if my finger started way above than that of other peoples'... I have no words to explain this (but I'll link a picture), but because of this missing crease it is really sort of hard to define where the finger starts.. I've compared my hands with other people before too and I haven't seen this on others. Not that this worries me or anything, but could it have some meaning to /reason behind it? Also I've always wanted to know where to measure my 2d:4d ratio but don't know where to take the measurements. Razz
Thanks!

Question about crease underneath index finger Empty Re: Question about crease underneath index finger

Hello emandem,

Don't worry, there is not much wrong with the crease connecting your index finger with the palm... but I think I can explain your worries with the following.

First of all, you should know that:
- below the middle- and ring finger there are usually two parallel creases observed;
- but below the index finger and pinky there is usually just one crease observed...!

Now, in your case ... this 'single crease' is positioned a little bit high, resulting in the impression that it manifests ON the proximal phalange of your index finger. But because there is also a second crease below your index finger (starting at the side of the middle finger)... it may look like that there is something missing there - which probably explains why you used the word 'incomplete'.

But basically, there is not missing anything at all.
Actually, by fact... you have an extra crease (the lower one)! Very Happy

Does this now make sense for you as well?

PS. It might be interesting for you also to take a look at your left hand as well.... feel free to post a picture of the same region of your left hand as well, then I will share my thoughts about that hand as well.

Question about crease underneath index finger Empty so if i measure

Post  emandem Tue Aug 23, 2011 12:53 pm

So if i measure my digit ratio, i take the measurements from the upper crease ? Which would result in an extemely masculine digit ratio.. xD I'm a female btw
The same pattern applies to my left hand aswell, by that i mean the extra bottom crease on the index finger.

EDIT: Since I couldn't add any topics about this to the 2d:4d forum, I would ask it here: if i measure my finger lengths from the back of my hand (starting from where the prox. phalanges join the metacarpals, those bumps so to speak), my 4th finger always ends up being almost a cm shorter than my index finger. However when i measure it from my palm, it's not that huge of a difference. Where to measure the real ratio? Do women in general have a higher digit ratio also when measured from the back of the hand or do all people technically have a longer ring finger? I know this might seem like a weird fascination of mine, but I'm doing some research on it and haven't found much materials.

Well, in your case one would have to study if the upper crease is really a indicative measure for the length of your finger.

However, from the photo that you presented, your index finger appears to be slightly longer than your ring finger... even when using the upper crease - which is perfectly normal for a female person!

(But I am not sure that the photo gives a representative impression regarding the length of the index finger and the length of the ring finger... because the photo was taken 'frontal' with stretched fingers, etc.)

PS. In general I would recommend to measure the digit ratio directly from your hand... a 'frontal' photo of your hand (with fingers stretched) can be used as a less reliable alternative, but photos are always far less reliable than direct measurements from the hand.

Question about crease underneath index finger Empty Thank you!

Post  emandem Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:16 pm

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should've provided a better picture. I was just once told that I had very masculine hands. I'm doing some research on twin studies (I'm a female co-twin to a male twin) and trying to see if another study is true about girls like me being more masculine. I actually already have traits such as Polycystic Ovaries, but i still like to search around.. beacuse everybody's always worried about their reproductive success, so am i.

Hello emandem,

I don't know why you were told that you have 'very' masculine hands... but from the photo I can see that your have long, slender fingers + a typical female '2D:4D digit ratio'.

This is actually quite typical for a female, and this high '2D:4D digit ratio' is an (unreliable) indicator for HIGH fertility in females!!

I hope this will ease your mind a least a little bit.

Wishing you good luck from the Netherlands! flower
